Decortating Your Yard with An Outdoor Bench
Jan 4th, 2010 by

Outdoor benches can be more than just a place for you to sit down while you relax out in your patio or yard. There are some benches that can really enhance the look of your home. Many people will probably think of these benches as something that someone put together in woodshop, but it can be so much more. These days, many of these types of benches can be made of plastic, yet look like real wood. Why would you want plastic wood looking benches? Well, mainly because they will last longer than the wooden ones. You can also get those outdoor storage benches as well to help store some items such as reading materials you use when you’re outside or even toys that your kids throw around.

Benefits of Solar Garden Lights

Another great thing is that many of them are really easy to install. All you have to do is stick them into the ground and you’re done.

The World’s Largest Landfill
Nov 20th, 2009 by

In the vast space of the Pacific Ocean, there exists the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a swirling gyre of the largest accumulation of trash in history. The area is an oceanic desert, filled with mostly phytoplankton and very few big fish or mammals. But the area is also filled with millions of pounds of trash, most of it plastic. It’s the largest landfill in the world, and it floats so far out in the middle of the ocean that it has gone practically unnoticed for over a decade.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch poses a significant threat to not just the environment, but also to all of humanity.  It is primarily filled with plastic, and plastic doesn’t decompose or compost. It will take thousands of years for the plastic that already exists there to break down into microscopic particles. It never truly goes away or decomposes, but is consumed by small fish and birds. Through the process of biological magnification, the organisms towards the bottom of the food chain consume the plastic and larger animals consume those organisms.  It’s not long before those plastic-filled organisms end up directly in our food supply. By introducing all of this plastic into the environment, we’re actually condemning not only thousands of animals to these unknown health consequences, but we’re condemning ourselves also.

So what can be done about this? The bad news is that it can’t be undone, its too late for that and there’s far too much trash to ever be cleaned out of the ocean. What we can do is stop it now at the source. This would involve you, the consumer, taking responsibility and avoiding plastics and other non-recyclable packaging.  Foil-lined chip bags, soda bottles and plastic baggies tend to be among the most often found plastic items in the garbage patch.  It will take a great consumer demand to change the way packaging is made and recycled.  In the end, its up to you.

A magnificent garden is composed of not just lovely blooms and shrubs; it also has lush arrangements, which enhance the area’s overall appearance.  The observation of even the tiniest of details is required.  To apply the necessary changes, you must build quite a number of garden planter.  These boundaries create order, turning your garden into a picturesque environment, instead of a jungle.

Garden planters are from an assortment of materials, all of which supporting a specific theme.  Wooden planters are perfect if you want to create an all natural setting.  Planters made of stone or marble add a lot of elegance to the setup, which suits luxurious homes.  After creating planters, you can set garden decorations – like fountains, spotlights, and walkways – to further build on your garden’s aesthetic value.

Two Types of Awnings for Motorhomes
Oct 26th, 2009 by admin

There are two basic types of awnings for motorhomes. The first, and less expensive option, is the manually operated awning. These awnings are usually lowered by either a pulley system or a wheel and cog setup. For most people, this option is more than sufficient, it doesn’t take too much effort to set it up, and they are sturdy enough to withstand a fair amount of abuse.

The other option is the automated awning. This style is usually operated with a button that you press to wind it down, and another to wind it up. These awnings are great for elderly people, or people who set up camp at the end of every day. The only problem is that if anything goes wrong with the electrical components in the awning, you could find yourself stuck inside your motorhome because of the lack of shelter.

Outdoor Rugs Make the Room
Oct 22nd, 2009 by admin

Just like in your home, there are walls a floor and a roof or ceiling to your outdoor rooms as well.  Just because your patio may not be as formally built, these structures still exist.  So, it is with this in mind that we come to the discussion of these outdoor rugs.  They can look just the same as an indoor rug, but have characteristics that make them better suited to weather the outdoor elements.

When it comes to patio living done right, we at Patio Covers Place are always impressed by the innovation that has gone into creating outdoor rooms and spaces that rival any indoor room designs and ideas.  It should come as no surprise that more and more people are making their homes a longer-term investment.  Gone are the days of the temporary neighbor.  We are moving back to a time when we actually stay put for more than 3 years in our homes!  Imagine that.

So, one thing to consider when you are making your outdoor patio a more hospitable place is to help create more of an indoor feeling in the outdoors.  Now, this isn’t to say that you should try to make your patio seem like an indoor room, just make it a place where you can truly enjoy the outdoor space.  For example, this could mean doing things to soften the harsh elements that often make up a patio.  One such idea is to use an outdoor rug to soften the floor of your patio.  The brick and stone ground can make your space feel cold and uninviting.

Don’t get caught up in the idea that you need wall-to-wall carpeting or anything, just a nice area rug to match your décor.  I addition to your floor, consider the lighting.  Your outdoor lighting can be an important component to getting the warm tones that you would like from your relaxing patio space.  While an outdoor flood light can be a good source of light to illuminate a path or place you’d like to see more clearly, it is not the best for creating ambient lighting.

Some great outdoor rug choices include the braided ones made with durable fibers and also the polypropylenes.  Some of our favorites are the bamboo rugs.  These have specific properties that not only make them durable, but sustainable choices as well.  Your patio may be small or it might be quite grand.  What you are looking for is not necessarily the size but the setting that you are trying to create.  You can create a wonderful setting with an outdoor patio rug that you simply couldn’t do with an otherwise concrete or brick patio.

Ultralight Spin Fishing
Sep 21st, 2009 by admin

If you have ever gone ultralight spin fishing and have found yourself dealing with the rats nest that finds itself in your reels then you may want to consider one small tip that will help you reduce the line twists that add up to causing you a catastrophic birds nest, or rats nest, that will stop you from fishing until you fix it. The reason most people experience these types of rats nests as their called, is because they cast their bait out and simply start reeling in order to close the bail and start bringing the lure back. What this does is create one small line twist each time you do it, and by the end of the day, your line is completely garbled, and in a total state of wreckage.
