Drug Addiction Detox
July 23rd, 2009 by admin

The struggling drug addict faces a dilemma when they try to stop using drugs.  The onset of withdrawal is usually so uncomfortable that it drives them back to their drug of choice almost immediately.  This keeps people trapped in addiction and prevents them from discovering a new life in recovery.

There are a couple of different ways to approach drug addiction detox.  One way is to check into a treatment center or a drug rehab.  This is generally very effective in the short term but getting good long term results is sort of a mixed bag.  The long term success rates for recovery are not all that great, but that is true regardless of what method of detox you go through.

Another option is to do some sort of drug maintenance program, where the addict continues to take a daily dose of a drug to help keep them off of illegal drugs.  This has some drawbacks as well, but it can be very effective in some cases, and it also sort of avoids the issue of detox altogether.
